Organizing Report — January 2021

As we begin this new year, I would like to wish all our members and their families health, happiness and hopes for a promising 2021. The Organizers of Local #11 have been busy gathering information and reconnaissance of non-union jobsites in our jurisdiction. Should you come across any jobsites, I would ask that you contact the Organizer or the Organizing Department so that we can follow up on the information.

Welcome and congratulations to one of our members for starting a new business and signing with Local #11, R Kings Electric. We hope to see some calls from this contractor as they start to grow their business.

At our last General Meeting we had quite a few new members take their oath as they were sworn in to Local #11. It reminded me of my own first meeting that I attended in District 2 at the Teamsters hall where I also took the same oath almost 30 years ago. At the time, I did not have any family or friends in the trade to stand behind me, but as is tradition, some of the members in attendance moved up behind us as we were sworn in. It did not impact me at the time as I could not fully appreciate what this Local and membership would mean to me in the coming years. Now that I have been able to stand behind my son as he entered the trade a couple of years ago, I hope that he will be able to do the same for his children.

Although we are barred from gathering in person to attend these meetings, I want you newly sworn in members to know that you have an abundance of members who move up and stand behind you as you take the oath of the IBEW. Never hesitate to reach out to myself or other staff should you have any questions or curiosity of what this Local can and will do for you.

In Fraternity,
Robert Corona
Director of Organizing
